♪♪BE A MAN♪♪

We must be swift as a coursing river
With all the force of a great typhoon
With all the strength of a raging fire
Mysterious as the dark side of the moon♪♪

In case you were confused, these are the lyrics to a song from “Mulan” the Disney movie. I chose these lyrics because today is a feast day of a great man, St Joseph: The foster father of Jesus and for some reason, these lyrics came to my head so I am going to relate them to the life of Saint Joseph.

St Joseph was as swift as a coursing river, when he learnt of Herod’s plan to kill the baby Jesus(from an angel who appeared to him), St Joseph swiftly responded and fled to Egypt with Mary and the baby Jesus.

“With the force of a great typhoon and the strength of a raging fire”.St Joseph was a carpenter, a job which requires a lot of strength. We also see that he had a very strong faith in God; He trusted in the will of God. At first, he wanted to divorce Mary quietly when he found out that she was pregnant.  However, he was visited by the angel and told that Mary conceived of the holy spirit. As a result, he still married her. Since the blessed Virgin Mary was a virgin all her life, we see the strength of Joseph’s character and his chastity. St Joseph did not feel bad or bitter that he could not produce his own children with his wife. He embraced the will of God wholeheartedly. How many people can do that?

“Mysterious as the dark side of the moon” In the bible, there is no record of any sayings of St Joseph. We see that St Joseph is silent and self- effacing.(I learnt about this point last year on St Joseph’s feat day in the Homily given by the Archbishop at SFU on that day)

My father is also called Joseph and I am named Josephine after him. So, today is my father’s Feast day and mine too…even though there is a St Josephine. I wasn’t able to make it to mass today as I hoped earlier 😦 Fun Fact: St Josephine’s Bakhita’s feast day is February 8th and I was actually baptized on February 8th . So cool. Anyways, I will keep celebrating St Joseph and St Josephine’s feast days as mine.

St Joseph is a model of fathers and husbands and I am blessed with an awesome earthly father. Over the years, I have seen that my father is truly like St Joseph. My father an honest man who actually would rather lose his job than compromise his integrity. He is also a man who is super sacrificial, loving and does his very best to provide for his family.Sometimes, I am amazed at the strength of my father. My father has gone through a lot of hardships in his life but in everything, He still trusts in the Lord and the plans that God has for him. My parents also raised us in the Catholic faith and for that I will forever be thankful.Thank you Lord for blessing my mother, my sisters and I with my father ❤ I humbly ask anyone reading this to please pray for my Father, for his health and for finances to keep providing for my family. Thank you!

We had CCO Coffehouse in the evening and it was really awesome. So much Talent ❤ ❤ and Mark and Terris also shared their personal stories which were great. Aww, Terris is all grown up 🙂  Praise God for him!

Lent with Pope Francis

“You can receive far more if you have a big heart!.

…A big heart doesn’t get entangled in other peoples lives, it doesn’t condemn but forgives and forgets [as] God has forgiven and forgotten my [our] sins”.- Pope Francis, Homily March 17, 2014

Do I have a merciful heart?

Help me dear Lord to be compassionate and merciful towards people and see them in the best light possible.

Make my heart merciful. Amen.

Lent with the Saints
My favorite!!! St Anthony of Padua ❤ ❤ I love him so much it’s crazy. LOL. I remember when I was in high school and I really disliked a particular girl, B, for no reason…the feelings were mutual. A close friend of mine called C, who was also a close friend of B was always confused about our dislike for each other. She said that B and I were very similar and to be honest, I was offended. Lol. Then B and I became bunkmates and realized that we both love St Anthony when we saw that we were both doing St Anthony novenas. Then we started arguing about who loves St Anthony more and I don’t know how we became friends from that. Hahaha. Lea said because St Anthony loved me & B so he prayed for us to become friends even when we didn’t explicitly ask him. I am glad that we because as much as I hated to admit it, we were actually very similar. Lol.
“Anthony should be the patron of those who find their lives completely uprooted and sent in a new and unexpected direction. Like all saints, he is a perfect example of turning one’s life completely over to Christ. God did with Anthony as he pleased – and what he pleased was a life of spiritual power and brilliance that still attracts admiration today. He whom popular devotion has nominated as finder of lost objects found himself by losing himself totally to the providence of God.” — Leonard Foley, O.F.M.

Today’s action: Ask Anthony to help you find a deeper faith in the final weeks of Lent.
