Every hour, I need you!

Today was my first BPK midterm & it went well. Praise the Lord! This week might not be that bad after all.
‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly’- John 10:10

Lent with the saints
Decide how you will make time to pray this lent.
Setting an hour aside each day for prayer: By doing various daily reflections, going to mass an/or adoration frequently and meditating on scriptures for each day.
Lent with Pope Francis
“What makes people hypocrites? They disguise themselves as good people: They make themselves up [to look] like little holy cards, looking up to heaven as they pray, making sure they are seen…..They think they are better than others. This is hypocrisy. The Lord says, “No, not that”. No one is justified by himself. We all need to be justified and the only one who justifies is Jesus Christ…Lent is to adjust life, to fix life, to draw closer to the Lord. The sign that we are far from the Lord is hypocrisy. The hypocrite does not need the Lord, he is saved by himself- so he thinks- and he disguises himself as a saint. The sign that we are drawing closer to the Lord, with repentance, asking for forgiveness, is that we care for needy brethren” – Pope Francis
Homily delivered on March 18, 2014.
In what ways do I justify myself?

I come from a generation of cradle Catholics. However, as I was growing up, I felt like I always had to earn God’s love and I actually used to trade with Him by going to Mass, saying so many novenas, doing the right thing…etc. It was only in recent years that I realized that God loves me no matter what and I can say that I have a deep and personal relationship with Jesus. I use a lot of prayer books and I love to pray with praise and worship music. I attend Mass at least every Sunday and when I can on campus or in a parish during the week. I try to receive the sacraments of reconciliation and the Eucharist as often as I can. I read spiritual books, especially by Lighthouse Catholic Media. ‘The Lessons of St. Francis’ is also a great book and I try to apply the principles to my life. I also listen to a lot of talks from FOCUS and Lighthouse Catholic media. They help me navigate my life and remind me of practical ways to live in true freedom in Christ.

Help me, dear God, to stop being hypocritical and to draw near to you in sincerity and in truth. May all that I do be out of sincere love for you and not for the sake of justification. Amen.
